SECURITY SUBGROUP ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED AT THE AUTUMN MEETING 2002

The subgroup has been concentrating on the briefing papers on ‘Information Security Management’ and ‘Information Warfare’ which should be completed by the end of 2002. Briefing papers on ‘Digital Signatures’ and ‘Security Activities in Safety Lifecycle’ should be completed next year together with starting a new briefing paper on ‘Remote Access’. Presentations were made at the UK Critical Systems conference and the subgroup’s symposium on ‘Information Security in Safety Related Systems’ which was held at the winter meeting. We are now have started preparing for the next symposium in 2004. The case study on power distribution is nearly completed and a new case study will be started next year. The Roadmap project on using security standards in safety related systems is due to be completed early next year and we aim to seek follow on work probably through the Framework 6 programme. The format for the website has been produced and we have started to populate the pages. We now have external liaison with ECMA, CORAS, AMSD and seeking liaison with CEN TC251 WG III and European Workshop on Computer Security (ESORICS). Also, involved in internal liaison with the Medical, Risk Analysis and MDS subgroups. The plan for next year was presented and agreed at the subgroup meeting is on the web site. Improving resourcing these activities will be through both increasing membership and more efficient working in meetings and between meetings using the web site and external reviewers.
